between reality and abstraction, the first wine collection produced by Donna Viola.

This line was born from the need to combine our wine tasting at the different times of the day.

Just like the day’s phases unfold each other, the three artworks are the result of one same project, aimed to make every label an essential component of the whole.

Colour is the protagonist of this project that gives substance to abstraction.

The dark colours of the night begin to disappear, similar to dawn, with light shades and pastel colours like yellow and pink. Warm and full shades illuminate and delineate the sunset, leaving room for purple and indigo, and then surrendering to the infinite blue of the New Moon night, illuminated by the gold of its stars. And from midnight blue, everything begins again. The power of the line guides the customers in a fixed direction with its stroke and its movement.

Despite abstraction guides the observer to subjective interpretation, the concrete study of the label has the strength to speak about itself, as a story.

The artist chose to represent this work using the classic watercolour technique, perfectly suited to simulate the material and fluidity of wine.

In the end, the canvas is a sheet of glass, a new support, aimed to enhance fluidity and dynamism, items of our winery and our products.

Five new proposals for the second wine collection of Donna Viola, inspired by Steiner’s anthroposophy.

The ether, first building block of the world, differs and condenses in four etheric forces: warmth ether (Fervor), light ether (Lux), chemical ether (Chymia) and life ether (Vita).

In these labels, the artist paints feelings using the human figure associated with specific colours.

The female figure is eveident in all the artworks; it is the favourite subject of the artist’s research, consistent with Donna Viola’s philosophy.

Colour is very important: in all his workthe artist chooses the colour that comes out of a free interpretation of the painted phenomenon. The shades bond each label to the next one. The contrast white-black-colour gives interesting effects to the human figure; then, lights and shadows draw the attention of the customer.

At the end, Chymia is the exaltation of an interior feeling. It is attraction of opposites, positive and negative, man and woman, ups and downs.

All was attributed to the atom, chemical symbol and first item of the world. The origin of matter is associated to a source of green and blue shades that colour the whole image.

Aether is represented by the most ethereal figure: an angel-woman with a white skin, colour of innocence. Her almost insubstantial wings arise from the black background. The artist chooses only two colours, black and white, total absence and presence of colour, the source of all things.

Fervor was born from a passionate hug. There are involvement and fire, feelings enhanced by red and its shades. The strength of all brushstrokes reproduces depth and substance of feelings.

From a woman’s hands some butterflies soar high up in the sky, symbol of metamorphosis and life. The Woman meets Nature in the moment of creation, dipped in green shades, colour of hope, and magenta that stains the butterflies’ wings.

The womans look is tenacious as for the one who can do anything and from whom it all started.

Lux is represented by the glow that lights a female face up. The brilliant light opposes to the dark shadows while two eyes arise from the background. A warm aura feels the entire painting with colours that vary from yellow to orange.
